What is aromatherapy and which are its benefits

Aromatherapy is a holistic practice that involves the use of essential oils extracted from plants, in order to treat different types of illness. The fragrances emitted act directly on the nervous system, therefore they are able to bring benefits in the treatment of both physical and emotional disorders.

Aromatherapy can be practiced in various ways: by inhalation, that is to breathe directly the essence produced by essential oils, for example by using specific diffusers which allow emanate them into the environment; by contact with the skin, performing aesthetic treatments such as massages, foot baths and masks or, more simply, by smearing a few drops of essential oil directly on the skin; orally, taking it in combination with food or diluted with water, for example in the form of herbal tea.

There are many varieties of essential oils, which have their specific characteristics and applications and offer particular benefits; in fact, some of them have soothing, antibiotic or balsamic properties. Furthermore, an essential oil can be used both in pure form and as a blend of two or more oils (synergies), to combine their respective peculiarities.
